What's this?

DC Adoption Day

When many of us consider what we’re grateful for this Thanksgiving, good health or a promotion might come to mind. For some, it’s having a mom or dad. That’s exactly what 48 children were officially given earlier this month at the 20th Annual DC Adoption Day Ceremony. Most of the children were in the DC foster care system. The ceremony took place in the atrium of the DC Superior Court, where judges who presided over their cases signed the decrees finalizing their adoptions. Metro Connection’s Lisa Nurnberger has this profile of one of the families.

Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center

Asian Americans are now eight percent of the District’s population - in Fairfax County, it’s close to 15%. In the third part of our series on award winning nonprofit leaders in the DC area, we meet Jayne Park. She founded an organization that provides free legal support to low-income Asian immigrants. Metro Connection’s Jessica Smith reports.

Fred Fiske - Dress Mess

Senior Commentator, Fred Fiske laments the ever more casual attire dominating men's fashion choices.

Thanksgiving with the Grandsons

It’s a Thanksgiving weekend tradition here on Metro Connection - we welcome the DC roots-music party band The Grandsons back to the studio. They’re releasing a new live album and are celebrating 20 years in the business. And there's a big Grandsons reunion/20th anniversary party at the Barns of Wolf Trap tonight, Friday the 24th. So finish those leftovers and get ready. Joining us for a live in-studio performance today are members Alan MacEwen on guitar and vocals, Chris Watling on sax, Matthew Sedgley on drums and Steve Sachse on bass.

IONA - The First 20 Years

From one 20th anniversary to another. For two decades now, IONA has been leading DC audiences on a virtual tour of the Celtic music styles found around the world. Today, in part four of our series on the Fall Celtic concerts at the Old Brogue Irish Pub in Great Falls, we meet the members of Iona. Metro Connection’s Stephanie Kaye spoke with the band.

Video Turkeys

Every holiday has a dark side. And with Thanksgiving it is of course the fact that critic Bari Biern returns with another edition of her Thanksgiving video turkeys - a trio of movies so awful, so excruciating, you’d really only rent them on a dare.

DC Has No Food

Writer Andrew Hiller laments that DC 'has no food.'
